SWTOR Free To Play Checklist

Free to Play is upon us are you ready? Whether you are a returning player, a current subscriber or someone completely new to the game there are some items you will want to ponder as the world of SWTOR opens its doors to the huddled masses. We take a brief rundown of some of these questions while we wait for the patch to drop.

Current Subscribers

Chances are if you’ve stuck it out this long you like the game. Now’s the time to dig a little deeper and think, “What do I really enjoy doing in the game?” and “Are there things that I could live without?”. If the answer to the first question is everything and the second no, then keep on subscribing and enjoying all the game has to offer. If there are some items (i.e. Warzones, Flashpoints) you can live without you may want to consider turning in the old subscription and opting for weekly passes of the specific content you enjoy instead.

Next go to your account page and check your cartel coin balance. Odds are since you’ve been subscribing you’ve amassed a fairly hefty chunk of change and can continue doing what you enjoy for some time running just off this little nestegg. Besides, when the cartel coins run dry you can always resub or purchase some more to use on the specific content you adore.

Augmentation Basics

When it comes to MMOs everybody is trying to get a leg up on the competition. In SWTOR one of the ways to do this is by augmenting your weapons and armor to add an additional slot capable of holding various augments with stats to complement your class. Prior to patch 1.3 the only way to get an item with an augment slot was to hit it lucky and get a critical on the item being crafted. Luckily that has all changed and augments slots can now be crafted by armstech, armormech, and synthweaving and applied to any piece of equip able gear. Below we go over the basic information you’ll need to get your gear augmented and maxed out in stats.

Getting Augment Slot Kits

As mentioned before, the armstech, armormech, and synthweaving crew skills can all craft the different variations of the augment slot kit. The schematics for the kits can be purchased from their respective class trainers. There are six tiers of Augment kits MK-1 to MK-6, the higher the tier of slot the better quality augments that can be placed in it. Crafting the augment slot kits will take around 25 minutes each to complete and require items from synthweaving, armormech/armstech and slicing as well as 10 Augmentation Slot Components or the corresponding tier. Sith Sorcerer Guide

If the Sorceror has taken the route of the healer they will gain access to powerful darkside abilities that can mend and even shield fellow Imperials from incoming damage. Top Five Reasons to Give SWTOR Free-to-Play a Try

Free-to-play is coming to Star Wars: The Old Republic on November 15th, 2012. A lot of players are wondering if they should come back to SWTOR and even more are wondering if SWTOR is worth a try. It’s pretty reasonable to ask this question, considering the game is going F2P before it has even been out for a year and it’s one of the first true AAA MMOs to switch over to the F2P model.

We here at SWTORHUB believe that SWTOR is definitely worth coming back to or picking up for the first time. That’s why we’ve compiled five awesome reasons for you to give the F2P SWTOR a try.

Copious amounts of bugfixes and updates.

The game might not have been out for a full year, but we’re looking at a good time for them to polish the game, improve the quality of life, and squash tons of bugs. Game enjoyment has dramatically increased with server transfers, the dungeon finder, and lots of other critical updates now in the game.

The game isn’t perfect, but there isn’t a single MMO out there that is. As a matter of a fact, I can’t really name a F2P game that is as polished and in-depth as SWTOR (although that isn’t to say there isn’t some awesome F2P titles out there). While SWTOR might not have worked on a subscription model, you can get over a lot of its current faults with the sweet price tag.

SWTOR Free to Play Goes Live November 15

An early Christmas gift that you don’t have to pay for, The Old Republic will be switching to its F2P model next Thursday November 15^th. When this happens, players can enjoy the SWTOR experience free of charge right up to level 50. Of course there will be some limitations for those who choose the purely F2P route, all of which can be unlocked via the in game Cartel Market. Below we’ll go over the details of the F2P model that were revealed in our recent Q & A with the folks from Bioware.

Cartel Coins

The new currency driving the F2P system are Cartel coins which can be acquired three ways; being a subscriber where you will receive a monthly allowance, purchasing them off of the SWTOR website, or buy purchasing a Cartel Coin card from your local games retailer.

Subscribers will not only receive bonus coins for previous months played, once the system goes live they will also receive a monthly payment of coins of at least 500CC. The 500CC a month minimum is received if you are on a month to month payment plan, if you choose to sub for longer periods i.e. 1 year or more that payment will increase.

Coins can also be purchased directly from the SWTOR website or from a games retailer in gamecard form. The full pricing scheme has not yet been unveiled but the minimum and maximum Coin Packs have been...

SWTOR Leveling Tips

Leveling in The Old republic is definitely not as unforgiving as in other games, but there may still be times you find yourself just under level for the next planet/area. With that in mind, there are some things all players can do to stay ahead of the curve and make their questing experience faster and a little more enjoyable. And with FTP right around the corner likely producing a large influx of new players, what better time to go over some of the tricks of the trade when it comes to leveling.

Bonus Quests and Heroics

If your one of the types who tries to power through the levels, bonus quests can sometimes be overlooked. Many of the quests you’ll pick up come with a bonus quest attached to it that can have up to three stages to them, each providing a healthy bump of experience when completed. Another “bonus” to the bonus quests is that their objectives are almost always part of the main quest or reside in the same area. On average completing the bonus quests of a planet will net you around 60% more experience than if you had completed the main quest alone.

Heroic Quests not only offer better rewards and credits they also dish out a larger amount of experience. With the exception of the Heroic 4’s, many of them can also be completed with you and your companion so give them a shot even if you can’t find a group right away.

Planetary Social Armor

Everybody likes to look their best when they hit the town so why should you have to run Flashpoints in the same old rags you have been for millennia. The answer is you don’t; as the majority of the planets in SWTOR offer up a unique social outfitted that can be modded to your satisfaction. Below we’ve rounded up some of the styling social outfits from those planets and posted the requirements for each.

Credit costs for every social outfit here all total 1400 for each complete suit. They are also all picked up from the social items vendor located in the cantina of the planets starting zone.

Imperial and Republic Fleet

The fleet offers pilots three different varieties of space jockey attire to choose from. The only difference between the two factions selection is the third space suit which is faction specific. They require Social Rank 1,2, and 3 respectively.

Jedi Shadow Guide

The Jedi Shadow is an advanced class of the Jedi Consular. Quick and deadly, this melee DPS / Tank fighter uses the force to pummel its enemies into submission and to guard its allies from the battles that wait in a galaxy far far away. Jedi Shadows, while sharing the same starting class, are vastly different than their Jedi Sage counterparts. They can't heal, but they make up for it in their ability to not only tank, but also utilize stealth to sneak in and out of battle, assassinating enemies of the Empire.

Cartel Coin Shop

The switch to a FTP model has been a controversial one since it was announced by Bioware mainly due to the fact that there have been very little details released regarding how the new currency system would work and what could be purchased with cartel coins. With the latest patch on the PTS server we get our first look at the Cartel Coin Shop which will serve as the in game supplier of everything from cosmetic items like pets and mounts, to enhancements that boost XP and valor. Read on for a list of some of the items launching with FTP and the coins you’ll have to spend to get them.

Cartel Packs

Currently there are only two “Cartel Packs” available for purchase, both of which provide a random collection of rare goods and an enhancement. The Black Market Cartel pack goes for 180CC and contains a rare bonus item with small chance of it being a super rare, a companion gift (at least prototype), and either and XP or a Social Point boost.
