An early Christmas gift that you don’t have to pay for, The Old Republic will be switching to its F2P model next Thursday November 15^th. When this happens, players can enjoy the SWTOR experience free of charge right up to level 50. Of course there will be some limitations for those who choose the purely F2P route, all of which can be unlocked via the in game Cartel Market. Below we’ll go over the details of the F2P model that were revealed in our recent Q & A with the folks from Bioware.

Cartel Coins

The new currency driving the F2P system are Cartel coins which can be acquired three ways; being a subscriber where you will receive a monthly allowance, purchasing them off of the SWTOR website, or buy purchasing a Cartel Coin card from your local games retailer.

Subscribers will not only receive bonus coins for previous months played, once the system goes live they will also receive a monthly payment of coins of at least 500CC. The 500CC a month minimum is received if you are on a month to month payment plan, if you choose to sub for longer periods i.e. 1 year or more that payment will increase.

Everybody likes to look their best when they hit the town so why should you have to run Flashpoints in the same old rags you have been for millennia. The answer is you don’t; as the majority of the planets in SWTOR offer up a unique social outfitted that can be modded to your satisfaction. Below we’ve rounded up some of the styling social outfits from those planets and posted the requirements for each.

Credit costs for every social outfit here all total 1400 for each complete suit. They are also all picked up from the social items vendor located in the cantina of the planets starting zone.

Imperial and Republic Fleet

The fleet offers pilots three different varieties of space jockey attire to choose from. The only difference between the two factions selection is the third space suit which is faction specific. They require Social Rank 1,2, and 3 respectively.

The switch to a FTP model has been a controversial one since it was announced by Bioware mainly due to the fact that there have been very little details released regarding how the new currency system would work and what could be purchased with cartel coins. With the latest patch on the PTS server we get our first look at the Cartel Coin Shop which will serve as the in game supplier of everything from cosmetic items like pets and mounts, to enhancements that boost XP and valor. Cartel Packs

Currently there are only two “Cartel Packs” available for purchase, both of which provide a random collection of rare goods and an enhancement. The Black Market Cartel pack goes for 180CC and contains a rare bonus item with small chance of it being a super rare, a companion gift (at least prototype), and either and XP or a Social Point boost.

An advanced class of the Jedi Knight, the Sentinel is the premier melee DPS in SWTOR. They fulfill this role by using their mastery of the force and deadly lightsabre techniques to summon abilities to quickly defeat their enemies and then make an expediate getaway.
