Space Battle Guide: Aeten Defense and Kalee Fortification

The best use of your personal starship in The Old Republic is taking part in one of the various space combat  missions that are available. As you progress in levels, the space combat battles become increasingly challenging, as is shown in the Aeten Defense and Kalee Fortification missions. To prepare you for defending a friendly space station from swarms of enemy attackers, Swtorhub.com has put together a complete guide, including combat info and strategy tips.

The Aeten Defense (Sith) and Kalee Fortification (Republic) missions are one of two space combat missions that become available at level 44. The two missions are exactly the same with only the identity of the opponents changed. The objective is to defend a space station from waves of enemy bombers. This is a harder version of the Skaross Fortification/ Pakuuni Defense mission.

Mission Briefing: Sith Empire

Traitors aboard a space station orbiting Aeten Two have compromised the installation's defenses. The traitors have been neutralized, but the station is defenseless and under attack by a Republic fleet. All available vessels are ordered to engage the enemy forces to protect the station.

Mission Briefing: Republic

The crew aboard the Imperial space station on the outskirts of Kalee was secretly preparing to defect to the Republic. The Empire discovered their plan and sent a fleet to destroy the station. All available vessels must engage the enemy forces while the station's crew and intel files are extracted.

Primary Objectives:

• Destroy 50 enemy bombers

Secondary Objectives:

• Destroy 30 enemy fighters
• Destroy 4 capital ship shield generators

Aeten Defense and Kalee Fortification Strategy

This is a difficult and challenging mission to undertake successfully. You will need Tier 5 upgrades for your ship to complete this battle.

Your main friend in this space battle will be your Power Conversion Module, which will get quite a workout. You will need to adjust your settings back and forth from increased blaster power to increased shield regeneration throughout the mission.

The enemy bombers are really tough and if you just use your missiles on them, it will take 3-4 missiles to destroy a single bomber. Your best bet is to use a combination of blaster fire and missiles to destroy the bombers. If a bomber is smoking, it will only take a single missile and a couple of shots to destroy at that point. You should set your Power Conversion Module to increased blaster power when enemy bombers are approaching. Start shooting at the bombers as soon as you see them. With some good shooting, you should be able to destroy a fair number of them before you swing in behind them as they fly over the space station. Once you’ve cleared a wave of bombers, set your Power Conversion Module to increased shield regeneration to get your shields back to full. You will take a lot of fire when you’re directly behind the bombers as they can shoot behind them. Don’t be afraid to use your Electronic Warfare Pod to temporarily protect you from enemy fire.

The dreaded heavy fighter that we know from the Polith Minefield/Hydian Way Blockade and Sullust Interception/Drexel Sweep missions makes an appearance here. You need to pour lots of blaster fire and missiles into him to destroy him as quickly as possible. He is extremely tough and pours out a lot of very accurate and damaging firepower.

Be aware of the capital ship turrets as you fly past them as they can do a lot of damage to you. If you’re level 45 on up, you should have an EMP Burst installed on your ship. Time your usage of the EMP to when you’re passing by the capital ship and you should take out a good number of turrets.

As for the secondary objectives, I would ignore them in the beginning as you’re feeling out the mission. Once you’re sure of successfully completing the mission, feel free to rack up some more kills and xp.
