The Old Republic without space combat is a cold, dark place so it’s fortunate that there is spacefighting action amongst the stars. You’ll be able to undertake space combat missions after you gain possession of your ship.
The Cartel Listening Post (Sith) and Balosar Outpost (Republic) missions are one of the first three space combat missions that become available after you get your ship. The two missions are exactly the same with only the identity of the opponents changed. The objective of this space combat is to destroy an enemy space station by blowing up a number of turrets, shield generators, hangars, and antennae on the station. The final objective is to calculate the jump to light speed, but this is done automatically if you succeed in the mission so you can ignore this objective.

Mission Description: Cartel Listening Post
The Cartel has allowed the Republic to set up a hidden space station in Hutt Space to intercept dispatches from nearby Imperial operations. All available ships have been dispatched to destroy the station, but additional forces will be necessary to breach the Republic defenses.
Mission Description: Balosar Outpost
The Empire has constructed an illegal hidden space station in the Balosar system to act as a staging point for covert assaults on Republic territories. All available ships have been dispatched to destroy the station, but additional forces will be necessary to breach the Imperial defenses.

During this space combat mission, you’ll do several fly-bys of the space station. The most important targets you should destroy first are the shield generators (at the base of the central spire), the antennae (at the top of the spires located on the rim of the station), and the hangars (located on the sides). Destroy a turret if no other targets are available, but you’ll have many opportunities to destroy the turrets as opposed to the other targets. Use your missiles to destroy the targets as your time on target is limited as you fly around. Therefore, it’s good to have an upgraded Missile Magazine after you initially get your ship to have more missiles to shoot. In a similar vein, having upgraded Beam Generators and Beam Chargers can help when you’re strafing targets.
Do not worry about the secondary objective of destroying 60 enemy fighters. You’ll destroy quite a few as you fly around, but if you start trying to destroy them all, you’ll miss attacks upon the space station and you’ll fail the mission.
As you fly through the mission, you’ll notice that there are a number of ships parked around the station. Keep an eye on them as you can fly into them and take damage, so make sure you navigate around them.
